Granny Reed

Alas my heart, though yet it beats,
It beats and beats and wails,
Straining to hear the coming sound,
The tolling of the bells.

Ninety-one years she graced this earth,
Spreading life, love, and glee,
So when I now look at the sky
A shining face I'll see.

And though my heart still weeps and wails
At her absence from this earth
I know that she, as the Bible foretells
Has had a glorious, second birth

So give unto us to not forget,
The glorious, loving seed,
Planted within us, through all our lives
By my Grandmother Reed.
